City Living
I have enjoyed living in this building for the last few years. The common areas are clean, the hallways are quiet, and the ... gym in better than the average gym you would find in a residential building. The staff is professional and generally quick to respond when something needs fixing, which makes a big difference in day-to-day life here. The location is also super convenient — it’s easy to get to groceries, transit, and places to eat without needing a car. But if you do have a car the parking is not so great. But that's the northside. Like any apartment, there are small things that aren’t perfect, but overall it’s been a comfortable, low-stress place to call home and I’d recommend it to anyone looking in this area. It’s what renting should be
Living at Somerset is what renting an apartment should be. On one of the rare occasions we had a maintenance request, the ... response was fast and resolution exceeded our expectations. Beyond that, Ruth remembered that not only do I work from home, but that Tuesday was my day off. So she waited until then to call to ask if service could be done. That kind of attention to detail, and that level of care, is exceptional !! One thing that does worry me a little is the rising costs. We’ve been here less than a year and already received multiple notices that “due to the rising cost of XYZ, the price of ZYX is being increased”. Things like water, wifi, utilities, I realize the staff of course aren’t in control of that, but we the residents don’t make anymore than we used to. Rising costs are becoming harder to manage when they come from everywhere. Overall however, couldn’t ask for a better experience. Thank you Somerset team!! I just moved back in!
I just moved into the Somerset for the second time, and I could not be happier with my decision to come back. The building ... is gorgeous, inside, and out. It is quiet, too. The staff is amazing! Working with Sonya in leasing was a breeze. She is a true professional. I was also beyond thrilled to see that Bryan in maintenance and our wonderful housekeeper, Anna, are still part of the Somerset team! Thank you for welcoming me back and taking such great care of me! We really love the building and unit. The gym and roof top are exceptional. While we haven’t rented the party room, it looks ... great! The lobby and mail area are perfect. But best of all is the staff. I may not have everyone’s name yet but Sonya S was our contact during the leasing process. She was helpful and kind every step of the way and after. Brian is the Maintenance Man and he seems like he is always in the building and always available if you have a question or concern. The cleaning lady and lobby attendants are also exceptional. The staff make the building great! Thank you! Read More about Awesome Building and StaffBy: Mike O Verified Resident

I absolutely without a doubt loved my studio apartment.. The layout was perfect and the walk in closet made me feel like ... I was living in a one bedroom.. Lots of light shined through due to having 4 windows.. Awesome!! The staff were always kind, friendly and quick to help with any of my needs.. if it wasn’t for the cold weather I would have never left.. A special shout out to Erin, Matt, Jimmy,Johnny, Anna, Marcus and the maintenance guys.(sorry I never got their names) I also have a small dog and she loved living in the building.. The deck on the ninth floor makes for one spectacular 4th of July.. View of fireworks in three directions.. The gym kept me in shape through the winter.. The L and buses are all so close with a ton of restaurants in walking distance. Plus,... Bonus having a salon attached to the building.. Alchemia's staff are all very talented hair stylists.. you won’t be disappointed.. I’m a runner and the lakefront is right in your backyard through the park.. I didn’t own a car for the majority of my 2 years.. Truth is you don’t need one but if you do have a car, there are plenty of monthly spaces you can reserve starting for as little as $112 a month.. Not bad for city life. Also Mariano’s is a five minute walk for your grocery needs and Whole Foods is only 1.5 miles. You have Andersonville and boys town in walking distance as well.. Thank you for an amazing experience and journey! Sincerely, Geri Read More about My two years in ChicagoBy: Geri Bartusch Verified Resident
A Wonderful Experience!
From viewing the apartment to 2 months of living at the Somerset, this has been a really positive experience. The staff is ... extremely helpful and the amenities are really nice. I have wonderful neighbors and my one bedroom is quiet and better than cozy with its large living area! The hardwood floors are nice and shiny and the bathroom is so much larger than expected. The common areas are kept tidy and the neighborhood has so much to explore. I am so glad that I am a resident! The only draw back for me is onsite parking, but that's Chicago. I park in a lot two blocks away. Happy for now! Read More about A Wonderful Experience!By: A Rodgers Verified Resident

Somerset Apartments is the ideal place to live in the city with an exceptional location right near Foster beach. The building ... itself has beautiful architecture and has been designed to fit any taste. With amenities such as a workout room, lobby with a library, and party room it definetely sets itself apart from the competitors. Aside from all this the staff is extremely accommodating and welcoming. You can’t go wrong with this place! After living here for about 3yrs, I have no desire to look anywhere else ! I have been a resident for a little under 6 months. Choosing an apartment is very hard and you have to weigh what's important ... to you among so many other factors. Personally, I have really enjoyed my stay at Somerset thus far. The biggest factor in that has been the staff. Both Erin and Matt have done a great job at really making it feel like home. They're very personable, prompt, and professional. They know each resident by name and their personalities didn't change after signing the lease. Jimmy and Marcus, the doormen, are also very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The apartments are spacious, clean, and up to date. Any time I've had a maintenance request, it was promptly handled the next day. Packages are delivered directly to your doorstep. The apartment gym is very up to date and clean. A nice plus for when you don't want to leave the building in the cold to work out. My only complaint would be parking (although not entirely an issue with the property). There's a waitlist for the apartment's lot and a few garages in the area that have waitlists. I've spent 40mins looking for parking on many occasions and oftentimes just uber places instead of moving my car. I am a young, female new to Chicago and have felt safe in the neighborhood. As other reviews mention, there are a few rough areas close by (but I attribute that to any major city). Central heat/air was a huge selling point for me. I also have a south facing unit and the view/lighting is great. In terms of price, it is a little on the pricier side for the area, but I think you just have to weigh that along with the pros/cons within what you're looking for as it can be vastly different for everyone. I work in the loop and take an express bus, which is about a 5 min walk from Somerset. The red line is a 5 min walk in the other direction. Mariano's is a 10 min walk. Utilities and internet are included, which is nice. The free internet can be slow, but not terrible. Overall, I'd recommend Somerset. I've been here for two full years now, and I've had a good time of it. Staff is friendly and reliable, neighborhood is a ... little rocky due to proximity to the red line, but hey, proximity to the red line is a selling point too. Amenities are amazing, laundry rooms are plentiful, onsite gym, gorgeous lobby with a piano for those inclined. I can't speak for all the different room layouts, but the quality of the fixtures is high. It's not the cheapest you'll find in the area, but it's a great balance of value to quality. Central heat and air, hardwood floors, I've had some noise problems with neighbors, but it's not been a long-term issue. Overall, would recommend if you're on the market. I've lived here for about seven months now and I honestly still can't get over how much I love it! The details that they've ... put into every part of the building, from the common areas to my own unit, is really impeccable. Even the staff is so friendly and responsive to any needs. I've been living at Somerset since Feb 2016 and it's a really great place to live, so much so that I'm signing another lease. ... The beginning was a bit rocky, mainly because the now gone Rachael gave me the wrong information about rent, didn't correct it until I had to call and discuss with her, and she was pretty rude about it the whole time. I think most of the bad reviews are because of her, but since her departure I've worked with Erin and she has been nothing but exceptional. She along with the maintenance and doormen are responsive and very friendly (I also live across from Erin and see her frequently). The building is also immaculate, the cleaning staff does a great job. Walls are super thick and I've been able to sleep very well without hearing neighbors. My only complaints, which aren't really Somerset's fault, are the parking and the occasional crime in the area. Parking is pretty awful, if I come home later than 5:45 there are zero spots (it's too bad the Alderman didn't work with Somerset to allot a parking area with at least subsidized parking for us). There are times I've had to circle for at least 20 minutes. I have heard gunshots outside of my window once or twice, and my boyfriends car was vandalized. I have spoken with the Alderman about this and they are apparently making sure police are more vigilant, but it can still be scary as a single woman (I've never really felt unsafe around the building though- there are a ton of cameras, it's well lit, and the doormen are great). With that said, Somerset is a great addition to Uptown that will hopefully continue to turn the neighborhood around. The inside is gorgeous, the staff are incredibly friendly, and Somerset balances luxury with affordability. Read More about Great place to live in UptownBy: Emilie Verified Resident

It looks good! Don't know if it's the place just yet (the first apt. I looked at). But it looks really good. The building ... is large, the kitchens and baths are great. A little pricey, but it is within my range. I will probably go back and see it again before I make up my mind. It's definitely in the running, though. Great experience
From the moment I first walked into the building it was nothing but good energy. It was clean, up to date and well kept. ... The staff was really great. The building manager Rachael Jenkins, is awesome. She showed me multiple apartments, and really took my wants and needs into consideration when helping me decide on which apartment I should choose. What I loved, is that she didn't pressure me like some other building do. She let the building and all its great amenities speak for itself. Can't wait to move in. :) Read More about Great experienceBy: James Verified Resident
Looks great on paper but has some flaws
Well where should I start, first off the amenities here are pretty great. The lobby is terrific and the workout room are ... great as well, overall the entire building has a very upscale feel to it all. These are the big attention grabbers when you first walk in and are shown everything. The apartments also look outstanding when you first enter them but after living here for roughly a month I have found several issues with the apartments and they just don't allow me to justify paying the rent that I am. First off the moldings and floors are made from very cheap materials and break/scratch VERY easily. When I first moved in there was already a large chunk of our closet molding gone (Which was promptly fixed by maintenance) and there was a large gash in our floor. The floor is also dented extremely easy and simply setting a chair on the floor will leave dents, making it less desirable to look at and takes away from the "hardwood" feel. The kitchen has some issues that I would also like to point out, some are small and don't affect me much but others just leave me scratching my head. One of the big ones is the height of the cupboards above the countertops. They lowered them significantly which is great for ease of grabbing things stored in them but you can barely fit anything underneath them, which is sooo frustrating! There is also no garbage disposal in the unit, which I should have checked before moving in but I overlooked that. The fridge in our unit opens the incorrect way so that when cooking we must go around the door to grab things, a small inconvenience but could have easily been designed properly. I am running out of room to place things so I will end with the so-called "freight" elevator that they have. The thing is tiny so you really had better have small furniture to bring to your unit or else you will be hauling your things up the stairs. The apartments are nice and get a 3 star overall from me but with a few changes this could be a 4 or 5 star rating Read More about Looks great on paper but has some flawsBy: Steven Verified Resident

Living at Somerset for almost a month now and being one of the "first" residents in the building, I would recommend living ... here. The building has been beautifully restored with modern decor while remaining the architectural integrity. Due to this being an older building with a new management company I recommend to have patience as they work through the "opening stages". Communication on recent updates has been helpful. Although due to this being a new building, not all of the stated amenities are currently offered/available. The neighborhood is something to think about if considering the building. It's stated Somerset is the beginning of gentrifying the area, hence it will be awhile before reaching it's desired peak. The new Mariano's is only two blocks North, Argyle red-line three blocks West, numerous bus lines around and monthly parking available a few blocks West. In five years Somerset will be a prime building, for now be one of the first to help turn around the area! Read More about Somerset Place ApartmentsBy: Zachary Verified Resident
